5 Exciting Hamptons’ Dining Experiences

March 04, 2022

The dining scene in the Hamptons continues to evolve and grow and is attracting world class chefs to its ranks. Many are now open year-round and not just for the touristy summer season. The vibe is much more casual than you will find in New York, yet still these establishments continue to attract a very upscale city crowd.

Here are some of the best places to entertain your palate in the Hamptons.

Duryea’s

You’re not going to find opulent chandeliers or leather clad seating at Duryea’s in Montauk. This humble lobster shack is a must-visit for its spectacular food and for the last 80 years continues to be one of the most popular family-operated eateries in the area. This simple, clean, white shack with an outdoor terrace is truly charming. The menu is always fresh and the ambiance is low key.

Must try: You definitely have to order the New England clam chowder followed by Duryea’s signature lobster rolls. By the way, this is a cash only place with a “bring your own drinks” policy although they do have a small selection of soft drinks. You might bring along a bottle of white to toast the decadent food!

Address: 5460, 65 Tuthill Road, Montauk.

Lulu Kitchen and Bar

You’ve got two choices at Lulu – a casual lounge vibe out front and more formal white tablecloth dining in the back. The kitchen is run by French-trained chef Phillippe Corbet, who spent several years in Michelin-starred restaurants before taking over at Lulu. The banquettes at the front of the restaurant provide roomier seating and are more private than the tables in back.

Must try: Seafood platters with Montauk pearl oysters, Bonac razor clams and tuna tartare or grilled duck leg confit with frisée salad, Mecox blue cheese and raspberry Dijon mustard vinaigrette.

Address: 126 Main Street, Sag Harbor.

Nick & Toni’s

This rustic restaurant is one of the top eateries in the Hamptons. The wood-burning oven is the focal point of the space and the focus is very much on farm-to-table cooking. The team uses fresh, locally-caught seafood and grows vegetables in its own, organic garden. The service is always warm and welcoming.

Must try: Domestic Wagyu New York strip steak with chestnut budino in a Barolo reduction. Leave room for the blood orange sundae made with blood orange sherbet, mascarpone gelato, blood orange caramel and angel food cake.

Address: 136 N Main Street, East Hampton.

The 1770 House Restaurant

The 1770 House has welcomed guests with hospitality and comfort for more than 250 years. This East Hampton restaurant attracts guests from around the world – guests who keep returning whenever they visit the Hamptons. The venerable home, today a boutique hotel and restaurant, seamlessly integrates historic elegance with luxurious, modern amenities and first-class dining with dishes by Chef Michael Rozzi.

Must try: Local, marinated swordfish broccolini, roasted leeks, cubanelle pepper, pumpkin seed-olive-cilantro relish.

Address: 143 Main Street, East Hampton.

Stone Creek Inn

The former Ambassador Inn has morphed into a French-Mediterranean gem offering locally-sourced products in its cuisine. The main dining room is lovely and lined with windows letting in beautiful, natural light. There is a small, classic bar area featuring shiny wood and handsome décor.

Must try: The classic bouillabaisse is delicious and teeming with the freshest seafood.

Address: 405 Montauk Highway, East Quogue.
