5 Finest Beaches in Anguilla

February 16, 2023
Little Bay Beach, Anguilla

Anguilla is the epitome of what a relaxing, exclusive getaway in the sun is all about. This Caribbean jewel has been consistently named one of the top sun destinations in the world and its pristine shores and crystalline azure blue waters are particularly enticing to discerning luxury travelers.

When you choose Anguilla to spend your precious time, you already know you won’t find high-rise hotels, cruise ships or casinos and that’s likely part of the reason you’re Anguilla bound. What you will find are beaches that are not overwhelmed by raucous crowds where you can lounge with that book you have been meaning to read forever, or simply just be, breathe in the salty air, and let your toes play in the sand. Or if you do want a little activity, there are more ideal areas for snorkeling, diving, kitesurfing or other water sports that tickle your fancy. You will be close to these glorious beaches when you call Villa Angel your home while in Anguilla – the height of sophistication and romance.

Beaches galore

Anguilla has 33 beaches, so it may get rather overwhelming when choosing an area that suits your desires. We have put together a list of five of the loveliest beaches on the island with diverse offerings where the opportunity of having fun in the sun is guaranteed.

Cove Bay Beach

This area is home to two beaches: Upper Maunday’s Point and Cove Bay, but it is Upper Maunday that has the best sand and fewer people. Cove Bay also has a dock where the local fishermen anchor and unload their daily catches. Not only is the cove area ideal for swimming, but there are other pluses. Smokey’s at the Cove Restaurant – the only eatery on this stretch of shore – has some of the best barbecue on the island, according to the locals, along with music right on the beach. There is a rock and coral reef at the east end providing ideal snorkeling in calm weather.

Meads Bay Beach

Your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you – the sand on this serene beach is tinged candy floss pink. The sand is so soft here, you will feel like you are walking on cotton balls. It is an absolutely wonderful place for a nap. If you follow the likes of the locals, you will gravitate to this beach since it is one of their favorites. The serenity of the area pulls people back time and time again. This is such a gorgeous stretch of beach that luxury hotels have latched onto the area with the upside of shores that are well-kept and many fine restaurants and first-class spas are in close proximity.

Maunday’s Bay Beach

You will be welcomed to this beach by a glorious stretch of gold-dust-like sand offset by cerulean water more vivid than on any other beach in Anguilla. Perhaps that’s part of the reason Maundy’s Bay beach has the moniker of being one of the ritziest and most magnificent beaches in Anguilla. The tepid water is ideal for swimming, snorkeling or just floating on a soft current without a care. High-end restaurants, tennis courts and luxury spas are within easy distance.

Little Bay Beach

For something absolutely breathtaking and uniquely romantic, Little Bay Beach gets the gold medal. This secluded gem can only be accessed by boat or by a rope that leads down from a lofty cliff. The area is set apart from other beaches so there are no hotels or restaurants nearby, but that is what so many find so entrancing. Relaxation is the catch word when choosing to spend time on this piece of heaven. Be sure to pack towels, beverages and snacks and your snorkel gear since this is the ideal spot to frolic with marine life such as turtles, stingrays and a host of colorful fish. Choose to stay near this lovely spot in Villa Betty – one of the most glamorous homes in Anguilla. You will be privy to 2.5 acres of beautiful tropical gardens with majestic views of Little Harbour.

Barnes Bay Beach

If you are a fan of stunning sunsets, Barnes Bay Beach has the best seat in the house. Not only the best seat, but also one of the most comfortable, icing sugar sand. It’s to this beach you will want to head if you want to spend some amorous time with your special someone. It is much less crowded than some other beaches. Since it’s close to luxury hotels, you have your choice of plenty of water activities like sailing, snorkeling and kayaking. After watching that stupendous sunset, there are plenty of fine restaurants nearby to get a bite to eat.

Sandy Ground Beach

One of the most sophisticated beaches on the island, Sandy Ground has an urban feeling about it. It’s next to Sandy Ground Village with its sailboats and yachts dotting the shallows. Since it’s such a popular beach, you will find many more amenities including vendors selling food and drinks. The Anguilla Summer Festival – featuring concerts, food, drink and boat races celebrating Caribbean culture – is held here every August.
