A Trio of Tremendous Wine Tasting Experiences

August 04, 2023

True wine aficionados often plan vacations around the types of wine experiences they will be able to have. Of course that includes tasting various types of vintages. With oenology and viticulture so popular these days, we are highlighting three of the top tasting experiences for you to consider before calling LVH with your desires for wine holidays.

As an elite vacationer who loves fine wine, you know when it comes to tasting, what is outside your glass is often as important as what it contains.

Read up on three of the loveliest wine tasting experiences in the world:

Opus One Winery – Napa Valley, California

Opus One provides the ideal winery tour and tasting situation for anyone looking for an ultimate luxury wine tasting experience. Visit Opus One Winery if you want to see and taste the fruits of the historical collaboration between Napa’s Robert Mondavi and Bordeaux’s Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild.

An experience such as this – in its unhurried elegance – should be savored like the wine itself. Feel the past wash over you while sitting in an 18th century opera chair or on a suede and chenille sofa.

When planning a trip to the Napa Valley or the Sonoma area, you might consider putting down vacation roots at New Tree Ranch – a 120-acre self-sustaining estate comes complete with a phenomenal glamping set-up as well as the exceptional 4,700-square-foot main ranch house.

Salcheto Winery, Montepulciano, Tuscany

Salcheto is a relatively new estate winery completed in 2011, however it was one of the first self-sufficient wineries in Europe. The winery offers IGT wines* from its organic estate. Overlooking the stunning town of Montepulciano, Salcheto is one of the most beautiful wineries in Tuscany. Salcheto President Michele Manelli says Obvius, a supremely pure, new-release offers an all fruit experience. You will be given an insight into the incredible technology used as you tour the production facility and ageing room.

* The Indicazione Geografica Tipica (IGT) designation allows foreign grape varieties to be added. The designation is used mostly in Tuscany with the addition of French varietals like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to Chianti Classico, creating the Supertuscans.

Tasting wines under the Tuscan sun, on the gorgeous grounds of this estate, is likely to be one of the most romantic moments you’ve ever experienced. And tasting is likely to make you a firm believer in both the high-tech and green principles espoused here. The ideal place to stay while in Tuscany is Villa Stabbi set amid lush vineyards and a golf course. You will experience the charm of a traditional Tuscan country house with resort-worthy amenities.

Mayard Vineyard, Provence, France

Utterly captivating Provence, with its fields of purple lavender, is home to Mayard Vineyard. Wine lovers will be well-acquainted with the name Châteauneuf du Pape which is exactly the region in which this winery is located.

The wonderful tasting cellar is open all year offering you a private tasting of choice vintages. We recommend the Clos du Calvaire created in 1923 by Marie Louise and Alphonse Mayard with its delicate aroma of red and black fruits with floral and fruity notes and a finish that is silky with ongoing tannins. It is a pleasure to drink and one of the stars of French wines.

Keep in mind, this is no ordinary winery. The Mayard family has been cultivating the 43 hectares of vines on their estate for six generations. There are 11 different grape varieties spread over the appellation, some of which have been planted for more than 100 years – after the Phylloxera period decimated most of the vines.

In keeping with the elegant pedicure of this estate winery, LVH recommends Villa Baulieu if you plan to stay in Provence. You will be able to tour the vineyard and wine cellars of the 300-hectare winery belonging to this property.

Villa Bailey, Provence

When your vacation plans include the desire to sample some of the finest wines the world has to offer, LVH can help you choose a destination based on your personal tastes and wishes. Rest assured, we do our utmost to fulfill all your vacation desires!
