Miami Welcomes the F1 Grand Prix

January 31, 2022

If you’re a die-hard F1 racing fan, you know there is a major event happening in Miami in May and it’s likely you are going to want to be there!

Miami now joins Austin, Texas to become the second US F1 Grand Prix race on the calendar this year – and the 11th different American venue to host a Formula 1 world championship.

Why You Should Go

You will be a part of history at an F1 Grand Prix inaugural race! How amazing is that as a racing fan? This is primed to be an amazing show. The track was created for close racing – sure to amp up your adrenalin. Aside from the race, you’re in Miami – with glorious sandy beaches, a cool art deco scene, a rich sporting heritage, dynamic multiculturalism, hordes of fine dining establishments and night life that is on par with Ibiza or St. Tropez! You will also be staying at one of the most incredibly lavish properties when you choose Villa Roxanne. Sleek, contemporary spaces filled with sunlight thanks to the floor to ceiling windows, this modern waterfront masterpiece has it all. Some top-flight amenities include an elevator, gym, bar, sauna, outdoor pool, boat dock, rooftop terrace – all in a park-like setting.

About the Circuit

The Miami International Autodrome at the Hard Rock Stadium is a temporary circuit, but designed to feel permanent. The track is the culmination of a development process simulating about 36 different layouts prior to choosing a lap with 19 turns providing an aura of a street circuit. There are elevation changes as well – the main one between turns 13 and 16, with the track heading over an exit ramp and under various flyovers across uneven ground. The turn 14-15 chicane has an uphill approach, with a crest in the middle, dropping down on exit.

The VIP Paddock Club package is your best bet for official race perks. 2022 Car Updates

Formula 1 Turkey Grand Prix - Formula 1 2022 Prototype Car

The most prominent difference to the 2022 F1 aerodynamics package is the return to a ground-effect formula not allowed in Formula 1 since 1982, but the calls for their reintroduction have become intense in recent years.

F1 has been wanting to reduce the reliance on wings for downforce, blamed for the "dirty air" making close-quarters racing difficult. By creating a very pronounced entry at the front of the floor, air moves through two tunnels and flows under the car. It's squeezed through the point closest to the ground, developing an extreme low-pressure area creating a large amount of suction underneath.

Tires will also change, moving to an 18-inch rim this year. There's a lot of change to the amount of bodywork for the next era of F1 cars. In 2022, the massively complex bargeboards will be removed and replaced instead with a new breed of "wheel bodywork," to minimize wake effects from rotating wheels. Wheel covers return and the front wheels now have a deflector over their top.

Using torsion bars only will no longer be allowed. Heave springs (inerters), will also be banned simplifying suspension systems. Suspension uprights must now be solely included within the wheel assembly, so no external mounting points are permitted.
