Chell makes a comeback after two years

The mega event that is the unique blend of music and fashion is coming back after being in absentia for two years and everyone who is anyone has it marked on the calendar. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is set for April 15-17 and April 22-24 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, only about 20 minutes from Palm Springs, California.

The first Coachella in 1999, drew about 20,000 people in each of its two days. By 2012, the festival became so popular, a second weekend of performances was added. The event has evolved with musical trends and unlike other festivals which espoused something – for instance, peace and love were Woodstock’s catch words – Coachella doesn’t have a raison d’etre, but rather is free from identity constraints.

A Hippie-ish Vibe

What you’ll find many women wearing to the event are more bohemian-inspired pieces based loosely on a hippie lifestyle – free-flowing dresses; skirts; cut-offs; bikini and crocheted, cropped halter tops; layered necklaces and beads; ankle bracelets; aviator sunglasses decked out with plastic daisies; tie-dyed backpacks and crowns made of flowers. Coachella markets itself as one of the world’s most “Instagrammable'' events and rightly so.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish first gained recognition for her song, Ocean Eyes, in 2015 at a mere 14 years of age. Her rise to fame has been continual and she became the youngest person to ever win a Grammy for album of the year in 2020. She’ll make history at this year’s Coachella, too, where the 20-year-old will be the youngest headliner the event has ever had.

Harry Styles

Harry Styles, 27, first rose to fame as one of the members of the boy band, One Direction. He launched his solo career in 2016 and also took up acting. He made a splash in 2017 with his debut single, Sign of the Times, and a self-titled album.

Ye (formerly Kanye West)

Ye (Kanye West) made his mark on the music industry as a producer for leading artists. He showcased his own abilities with his 2004 debut, College Dropout, and cemented his place in the hip hop world with such chart-topping albums as Late Registration, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Ye. The 45-year-old has won more than 10 Grammys.
