Five restaurants befitting of luxury travelers

Fine dining in Monaco reaches a whole new level. Restaurants here not only offer some of the best fare on the planet, but are also visually stunning.

Here are five of these establishments we recommend you visit while in this delightful part of the world:

Louis XV – Alain Ducasse at the Hôtel de Paris

If Michelin stars are important to you (and of course they are) you must dine at Louis XV – Alain Ducasse at the Hôtel de Paris. With three Michelin stars, this fine dining establishment is befitting of diners with the most discerning palates. Chefs Dominique Lory and Alain Ducasse have created a fresh, contemporary menu. “Cuisine that sings of sunshine.” is how Ducasse describes the cuisine at Louis XV. His Riviera-inspired dishes celebrate the region’s very finest produce, flavors and colors, featuring locally caught fish, herbs and vegetables grown in the nearby countryside, and intensely flavorful bouillons. You will be dining in a setting of gilt decor and frescoes restored to their full splendor. Menus are complemented by a treasure trove of wines chosen by an in-house sommelier.

We recommend: Sea urchin and delicate iodine geleé with sweet corn and cornelian cherry; poultry from Fromentiéres, morels and watercress; and fresh, matured cheeses.

Le Blue Bay

Located in the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort, this superb restaurant facing the Mediterranean has been in the capable hands of Chef Marcel Ravin since its opening 10 years ago. His culinary style combines the flavors of the Caribbean with the treasures of the land and the sea in the south. Le Blue Bay has one Michelin star, confirming its place among the best fine dining restaurants in Monaco and heralding a bright future for the establishment.

We recommend: The unmissable signature dish – organic egg with cassava, truffle and passion fruit; green papaya spaghetti carbonara; or truffle and Jabugo jamón ibérico de bellota.

Yoshi offers exceptionally subtle and innovative Japanese cuisine. In a soothing Japanese garden decor, the restaurant – in the heart of the Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo – is distinguished by its Zen ambiance and elegant flavorful dishes. Yoshi is the only Japanese restaurant on the Côte d'Azur to have been awarded a Michelin star since 2010. Chef Takeo Yamazaki and his team give the full measure of their talents to make this star shine. Enjoy nigiris, makis, sashimi, fish or meat cooked in teppanyaki compete in freshness, accompanied by the best sake, whiskey or Japanese green teas selected by Yoshi’s head sommelier. The restaurant opens onto a Japanese-inspired garden to diners’ delight.

We recommend: Sirloin filet rolls; miso soup; sushi rolls; salmon California; negima teppanyaki, fillet with vegetables; hand rolls and Wagyu sushi with foie gras.

There are a number of lovely dining spots in Monaco, however, you might just want to stay in one evening and have a personal chef cook for you in your Monaco home-away-from-home, Villa Monaco. This spectacular home is on an acre of lush, gated terrain for the utmost privacy. Golden age Hollywood glamor is befitting of the tranquil and light-filled spaces. A separate guest-house overlooks the stunning views of the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. A large heated infinity pool on the terrace presents the ultimate venue for picture-perfect sunsets over the neighboring peninsula of Cap Ferrat. Guests will have full services and 24/7 support from the LVH team.

Le Grill

On the eighth floor of the prestigious Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, Le Grill offers outstanding panoramic views of the Mediterranean. In fine weather, the roof opens fully for sun-drenched lunches or starlit dinners. Chef Franck Cerutti has been honing his impressive talents in the kitchens of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo’s restaurants for decades. Cerutti – who spent 30 years working alongside Chef Alain Ducasse – speaks with pleasure about his attachment to the Riviera, quality produce, and the culinary art he has been practicing since 1978.

We recommend: Coastal turbot, mixed vegetables, chanterelles and coco beans; rack of lamb in a savory crust; Challans duckling in olive sauce; and for dessert, raspberry soufflé.

Le Train Bleu

The dishes on the Italian menu at Le Train Bleu are utterly delicious. Gourmet flavors of wild fish, langoustines, lobster and other seafood are paired with the likes of artichokes, porcini mushrooms or eggplant according to the season. At the beginning of the 20th century, the only way to get to the Principality was by rail. A true reproduction of a restaurant car, Le Train Bleu is an elegant tribute to this golden age. Paintings, colors, woodwork: everything here recalls the splendor of a passenger train in the Belle Époque. You can expect a truly unique dining experience.

We recommend: Duck foie gras, seasonal salad with grapes, and toasted country bread; fresh crab tartar with grapefruit, apple, hazelnuts, and citrus olive oil; risotto with Erdre saffron, sautéed mushrooms and vegetables, gratinated bone marrow.
